Celebrating 250 years of American freedom and 20 years of Chorus Polaris — where individual voices unite to shape a greater future.

This year marks the 250th anniversary of America's Declaration of Independence and the 20th year of Chorus Polaris making music that unites, inspires, and uplifts. This rare season of double anniversaries invites us to look back with gratitude and forward with confidence, knowing that the story of progress is still being written.
History is a living river of constant improvement, sometimes turbulent, always moving forward. From the first spark of discovery of the potential of the individual, to the refined achievements of the modern day, time is our greatest architect. And in this milestone year, the 250th anniversary of our nation and the 20th anniversary of Chorus Polaris, we celebrate the spirit of evolution. We celebrate the spirit of evolution, not just how far we’ve come, but the enduring force that made such progress possible: the freedom of the individual.
The Foundation
Two and a half centuries ago, a bold experiment was set in motion. It began with a revolutionary discovery: the idea that a nation’s strength is rooted in the freedom of each individual to pursue their own potential. The foundational cornerstone of individual liberty has guided our evolution ever since. It recognizes that when a person is free to develop their gifts, the entire community rises.
Like any great composition, the early years of our nation were a process of learning how to balance individual liberty with a collective purpose. Over generations, we have moved steadily toward a more perfect union. We learned that a "perfect union" is not a union of sameness, but one where every unique voice strengthens the whole.
20 Years of Art: The Power of the Individual Voice
This same principle is what makes Chorus Polaris so special as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. A choir is the perfect metaphor for a free society.
The beauty of a choral performance is not created by a monolithic wall of sound; it is shaped by the skill, dedication, and artistry of the individual singer. Every performer brings a distinct range, a personal history of practice, and their personal commitment to mastery. The singer’s choice to practice and improve is an exercise of their autonomy. And when the singer invests in their own growth — refining technique and deepening musical understanding — they don’t just improve themselves; they elevate the entire ensemble.
For two decades, Chorus Polaris has flourished and developed a repertoire spanning a millennium because our members acted on this sacred balance. The choice to bring passion, individuality, and excellence to the stage creates a collective harmony far greater than the sum of its parts.
Anticipating an Even Greater Future
The advent of a new year always offers a fresh beginning. However, instead of beginning with a blank slate, we start from the peak of everything we have learned as individuals and as a nation.
As we look toward the horizon, the narrative of improvement continues. We anticipate a future where the lessons of the last 250 years guide us toward greater unity, and the melodies of the last 20 years inspire us to reach for even more breathtaking harmony.
Fine music often culminates in a crescendo — the moment where individual excellence, historical momentum, and shared vision rise together in a powerful swell of sound. In 2026, Chorus Polaris continues its crescendo. We celebrate the freedom that allows us to grow, the discipline that allows us to excel, and a future that promises to be our most extraordinary performance yet.
Join us this year as we mark these milestones — with our Valentine’s Gala in February, and our May performance with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony bringing voices and orchestra together in Ode to Joy.
